Knitting Socks

Last year I made a list of 50 things I wanted to do by the time I turn 50.  One of the items on the list was to knit a pair of socks.

I am not an expert knitter in fact I am a complete beginner.  I learnt to do a knit stitch as a child but it was only less than 18 months ago that I actually learnt to pearl.  The only things I have knitted are a pair of wrist warmers and a couple of hats.

During the past 6 weeks I have purchased/been given a number of balls of sock yarn with the intention of knitting those socks.

I've started with some Regia self striping yarn:

If you look closely there is a little mistake in the rib on the right side where the blue and dark beige colours meet.  But I carried on knitting.

But then I noticed a mistake in the blue stripe, no wait, I noticed 2 mistakes.  Here I sit with a sock that has a teeny tiny mistake in the rib which is not really noticeable but 2 larger mistakes that scream out at me.  What do I do?

Leave it.

Try and frog back bearing in mind I am useless at doing that without starting all over again.  Then I have the problem of the stitch marker.  I need to go back about 10 rows.

or

Use this as a test sock and buy another ball of yarn.  I'm quite sure when I get to turning the heel there will be issues too.

What should I do with this current sock?

Can you offer any advice?

I would carry on. but that is just me. mistakes don't bother me too much and who is really going to notice a tiny flaw especially on your feet. as with anything you try to learn it does get easier.
I also wouldn't buy extrs yarn to reknit just knit the first one then cast on the second with some experience under your belt. when you finish the first you can decide if the mistakes in the first sock bother you enough to redo. but believe me when you try on the first sock you will love the fit and feel so much.

Iˆwould keep going. this is your learning sock. your second sock will be better. and then you can decide if you want to redo the first one.
but really these are mistakes that a lot of other people won't even notice unless you point it out....so wear them with pride.

If you are really not happy and it bothers you every time you look at it, I would start again before you get any further.
I knit a lot of socks but my first pair, I really struggled using DPN's and cuff down. I finished but never wanted to knit another pair. Until I bought the book Socks From the Toe Up by Wendy D. Johnson. I've wrote about it in my last blog post, the tutorials are great and she starts you off by doing plain socks using the different cast ones and heels. I do Judy's Magic Cast On, which I've found I prefer, check out You tube tutorials.
I started by using two circulars but have just started using in long circular with Magic Loop, which I'm finding much quicker.
I hope this helps, sorry I've written an essay, lol. I hope you and the kids are well and wasn't effected too much by the weather. Deb x

Finish it, it will give you a great feeling. Starting and finishing something creative is always fun, and important.

I am just jealous that you can knit and crochet. These are things that I have tried to learn numerous times but it always ends badly. I say keep going!

I'm not a knitter at all and that looks lovely but very complicated to me!
