All around the country it has been very wet of late and we have been unable to go out. Our garden is like a mud bath as the ground just isn't having chance to drain all the water away. We even have a little pond right in the middle of the path. Walk through the water or over the muddy grass. Either way I am sick of having to clean up all the mess inside the doorway.
Today, the sun shined for around an hour. Admittedly there was very ice like wind but dry. Like much of the South Coast and The Welsh Coast we had a little bit of a storm hit this morning. High tide here was 9.20 and we waited until just before 10 before we went out to look. We walked the mere 80 metres to the gate at the end of the road and this is what greeted us:
Water coming up the slope. Sadly if it reaches the top it most likely paddle time for us. But luckily it didn't.
That metal bin attached to concrete on the bottom right was by the lamp post yesterday.
The prom is 8 foot down those steps and 12ft wide. The beach is another 15ft drop down the sea wall yet the waves came over.
The waves really are higher than the lamp post.
Getting brave but can I point out at this point the water was NOT coming anywhere near where we are standing. The ground is still wet from high tide but is not splashing up by us.
We have been very lucky where we live. The following photos are not mine and are taken from the Love Tywyn facebook page.
The other side of the road from us is a caravan park and that got flooded. We live behind that dormer bungalow so are very very lucky not to be paddling.
A third of a mile down past the caravan park the train line has been washed away.
The main sea front was also flooded.
A few miles up the coast in Barmouth people were evacuated last night and the town is under water. Such destruction and misery all caused by nature.
Aberystwyth sea front now looks like this:
We are now back inside as surprise surprise it's raining again.

I am sorry to hear that where you live has been so badly effected by flooding, but glad you are ok. I don't think anyone here will ever forget when we were flooded in 2007. I hope things aren't too bad for everyone there.
Wow! That looks immense. It is so easy to underestimate the power of the weather. We used to live in a small Yorkshire town that suffered most years with flash flooding, now living on the South Wales coast it is the wind and rain that seems to do the damage.
I hope things can get as back to 'normal' as soon as possible. x
Oh my you really have been battered. I love your wild stormy photos but oh dear those poor caravans, are they occupied or just holiday lets? Sounds like you have only just escaped with your own home. Stay safe and I'm glad you didn't risk life and limb to share these spectacular photos. The Kids did look thrilled by what they saw!
OH Wow! that is a powerful set of waves. I do hope it stops raining soon and that your home will not be flooded. Happy New Year 2014. May it get better and better.
Wow, those photos are incredible, the power of the weather is scary at times. I hope that things are clearing now, and I'm glad that your home is okay, but so sorry to see such damage to your town. #CountryKids
oh my what crazy weather we have had, those pictures are amazing!
Those seafront waves are intense! What a relief that you're home was safe despite the ravages of nature on the town.
It all looks horrible and so scary for the people it's affected. It does show hoer powerful Mother Nature can be. Glad you're safe x
It's been so sad to see these pictures from a part of the world we know so well. We were due to travel on that train line that morning, but we didn't travel in the end because of the weather. x
gosh those photos are amazing! I feel for anyone who has been flooded not great start to 2014
Such awful weather but such great shots of the waves there - I wanted to head down to our local beach but I got the fear! x
That is a lot of water. We really have to respect mother nature. How brave you were to go out into it. those waves are massive!
I hope it stays out of your house - it's scary how much damage something you kind of take for granted can cause when you look away.
Wow them pictures are amazing! You guys are brave, I'd be snuggled up indoors with hot chocolate! x
Wow, that's crazy... Beautiful pics though!...
What dramatic shots. We had major winds but luckily for us it all happened at low tides. Phew!
Wow! Hope all has calmed down and the massive clear up can begin. Mother nature really does have some strength
Wow, it certainly has done some damage where you are! How far north of Aberystwyth are you? Just wondering how far away from us you are when we are in Wales.
