Crochet Aspirations

This year I want a project that is different from what I have done before.  I quite like the idea of something like this:

Pattern

I have never crocheted clothes apart from wrist warmers and cowls.  Perhaps something with a more practical use.

What I had in mind is a crochet bag, something like this:

Pretty certain I could make the daisy flower and then make a hexagon instead of a square but not sure how practical the flower would be on a bag.  However, it would only be a special occasion bag.

Knowing me, I'll end up just making a blanket.
